The antiviral effects of Basil
Basil is an herbaceous plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family.
In addition to its culinary use, it contains two essential phytochemicals, rosmarinic acid and caffeic acid, which have several important medicinal characteristics, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, antioxidant, antiviral and antifungal activities.
It is a well-known medicinal plant in traditional Chinese medicine for its antiviral activity against DNA and RNA viruses.
